Abstract

The steering gear system on ships is very important for navigation and manoeuvrability. It uses a hydraulic mechanism to move the rudder. For the steering gear to work safely and reliably, it is important to keep the hydraulic oil level in the reservoir at the right level. This journal article describe about how to design and build an automatic top-up system for the steering gear oil tank using the PIC16F84A microcontroller. Float sensors keep an eye on the oil levels all the time, and a pair of pumps to pump the oil when it has to be added. It is a cheap and effective way to improve safety on the job and cut down on the need for manual monitoring. The use of microcontroler in the system because it is simple, reliable, and works well for marine automation applications.
